What is the 18 candles ceremony?
The 18 candles is one of the most loved Filipino debut traditions. Eighteen women who helped shape the debutante's life, usually her mom, lolas, titas, ninangs, sisters, cousins and best friends, each light a candle and share a short wish or piece of advice as she turns 18. It usually happens after dinner, next to the 18 roses, and mom often goes last.
What's in every set
- 18 stick (taper) candles, one for each person
- 18 candle holders, so the candles stand straight and wax doesn't drip on hands or her gown
- 1 big candle with a holder, personalized with her name and the date of her debut. Everyone lights their candle from this one.
Every piece is decorated by hand. Black and gold, white and silver, rose gold, sage green, navy, burgundy or any color you need: send us her theme and we'll match it. After the party, many families give each woman her candle to take home as a keepsake.
